A freight train derailed on Thursday (19) in San Francisco de los Romo, in the state of Aguascalientes. Around 24 of the 85 cars left the tracks, and at least one person died. Seven people, all migrants, were injured.
According to authorities, one of the injured was from El Salvador and the others were from Honduras. The nationality of the person who died in the accident is unknown.
The video shows the moment the locomotive derails, kicking up dust and crashing into an embankment.
The train belonged to Ferromex, the largest rail freight company in Mexico. The state coordinator of Civil Protection, Eduardo Muño, said that Ferromex needs to clear the area and determine whether there were additional fires.
Authorities believe that the lack of proper track conditions in the section may have caused the derailment. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
